Kate Middleton has been the target of virulent attacks. As specified by the American media PeopleFriday November 1, several Russian groups used the state of health of Prince William’s wife to distort the truth about Russia’s attack on Ukraine. To do this, this online network took advantage of the interest of the public (who was then very interested in the fate of the Princess of Wales) to reveal, on the Web, several conspiracy theories about her, filled with stories pro-Russian. A disinformation campaign which has, fortunately, been noticed by the British government.
On October 28, and faced with the numerous false information that was revealed by this impressive network, the British government decided to sanction three Russian agencies who were behind this vast network (known as Doppelganger). “Putin is so desperate to undermine European support for Ukraine that he is now resorting to clumsy and ineffective efforts to try to stir up unrest. Today’s sanctions send a clear message: we will not tolerate your lies and interference, and we will pursue you“, reacted the English Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Lammy, in a statement.
British royal family: this other member of the Firm targeted by false rumors
Still according to revelations made by People, before Kate Middleton publicly announced her cancer, another member of the Firm had already been targeted by this malicious network. Namely, King Charles III. Just a few days before the shock announcement of Prince William’s wife, certain Russian media had echoed a preposterous story according to which the sovereign had lost his life. “British King Charles III is dead. […] The king died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon“, announced several media outlets, revealing, at the same time, an alleged palace document dated March 18, 2024. False information which then encouraged the British embassy, based in kyiv, to deny this rumor sur X (ex-Twitter).
