A very big change is expected to occur at the capital’s airport.
The concessionaire of Sofia Airport initiated the implementation of a project for the construction of a photovoltaic park at the airport. A tender has already been announced for the construction of a photovoltaic power plant up to 5 MW. The procedure was launched on October 2, but without specifying the amount of the investment.
The plant in question is the first step of the larger project for a photovoltaic park with a capacity of 20 MW, which was announced in May last year. Even then it became clear that “Sof Connect” plans to implement the first 5 MW before 2025.
The PV system is planned to be built on the eastern side of the Iskar River, in the concession area of the Sofia Airport”, stated the press center of “Sof Connect” after an inquiry by Economic.bg.
They added that for the moment they will refrain from sharing information about the value of the project, as the bidding procedure in question is ongoing.
November 15 is the deadline in which companies that have expressed interest must also submit offers. The press center specifies that after signing a contract with the selected contractor, the construction of the PV plant should be completed in about 8 months.
By using solar energy, the airport aims to reduce its dependence on external energy sources, especially during peak solar hours, when with the installation it will be able to cover 100% of its electricity consumption,” stated “Sof Connect”.
The concessionaire plans to have the 20 MW solar park operational in 2033, with the construction of a 20 MW integrated energy storage system.
