A meeting of the Regional Council on Disaster Risk Reduction, led by the Regional Governor Prof. Neikova, was held today. The working meeting was attended by representatives of the territorially represented state institutions and municipalities.
From the information provided, it became clear that all of them have started preparations to secure the necessary resources for the upcoming winter season. The necessary inert materials for cleaning and securing the roads in the Burgas region have been provided. The technical serviceability of the available snow removal equipment in populated areas is checked.
The Municipality of Burgas announced that for the winter maintenance and snow removal of streets, sidewalks, playgrounds and other places for public use, it has concluded a contract with a company that has equipment of 22 multi-functional specialized machines and initially provided quantities of materials supporting the cleaning.
In severe winter conditions, the municipality provides for the use of volunteers and persons deprived of liberty from the prison in Burgas to help clean public spaces – bus stops, subways, footbridges, square spaces, etc. Accommodation places for people in distress are planned – Municipal Sports Center Vetren, Municipal Villa in Rosenets Park, Center for temporary accommodation of homeless people and Crisis Center for accommodation of persons and children. If more accommodation is needed, the sports halls and Park Arena OZK will be used.
During the winter season, tugboats will be positioned in the passes in Burgas region – Aitoski, Rizhki, Primorski, the road Burgas-Malko Tarnovo and Burgas-Sredets.
For better coordination between the institutions, the head of the PBZN-Burgas proposed to provide the lists of companies with which the municipalities in populated areas will conclude contracts for snow removal, as well as to look for the possibility of providing additional heavy equipment with which to remove heavy stranded trucks and TIRs.
Most of the drainage canals, dykes and river beds in the district have been cleaned and in others this process will be finalized soon. The checked dams on the territory of the district are in good operational condition.
Medical equipment is provided, which, in case of worsening weather conditions, will be able to help sick people, hemodialysis patients and women in labor. The treatment network also remains ready for operation in winter conditions.
All 137 schools in the Burgas region have announced that the learning process will be ensured during the cold months of the year. Heating is provided for both schools, kindergartens and social homes.
