Washington, Nov 1 (EFE).- The United States Government announced this Friday a reinforcement of the military deployment in the Middle East with the sending of destroyers and combat squadrons, which will begin to arrive in the conflictive region in the coming months.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said in a statement that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made the decision in line with the country’s commitments “to the protection of American citizens and forces in the Middle East, the defense of Israel and the reduction of tension through deterrence and diplomacy.

To this end, he ordered the deployment of destroyers, fighter squadrons and additional tanker aircraft, as well as B-52 long-range attack bombers.

This is in addition to the shipment of the THAAD high-altitude anti-missile system, which was recently deployed in Israel to reinforce its air defense against possible missile and drone offensives from Iran and its Hezbollah allies in Lebanon.

“These moves demonstrate the flexible nature of America’s global defense and its ability to deploy around the world on short notice to meet evolving national security threats,” the statement said.

Austin, according to his statements, “continues to make clear that if Iran, its partners or its proxies take advantage of this moment to attack US personnel or interests in the region, the United States will take all necessary measures to defend its people.” EFE
