NFL star doesn’t skimp on self-criticism

Despite the 21:13 victory over the Houston Texans, there was a lot of discussion with the New York Jets afterwards. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers took a lot of criticism of himself.

After five defeats in a row, the New York Jets have stopped their decline in the NFL. However, in the 21:13 win against the Houston Texans, the team around star quarterback Aaron Rodgers needed a whole half to score points. Accordingly, their own criticism after the game about their performance in the first two quarters was clear.

Rodgers himself completed just 7 of his 14 passes to his own team in the first two periods. That resulted in just 32 yards gained – a career low in a first half for the veteran playmaker.

“Yes, I was terrible,” Rodgers admitted after the game. “I played as poorly as I could in the first half and I knew I had to get better from there.”

“The mood at halftime was good”

And it actually got better. In the second half, Rodgers threw three touchdown passes for the first time this season, leading the Jets to victory over the Texans. After the game, the 40-year-old blamed the positive mood in the dressing room for the improvement in performance: “The mood at halftime was good. Morgan Moses gave a little speech, which was good. We all stayed positive. Nobody was isolated at halftime.”

Rodgers’ 26-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson in the final period was the highlight of the game. The Jets wide receiver caught the pass while standing in the air with just one hand, giving the team a 14:10 lead. “At first I thought I had thrown my pass to an acceptable spot – but I actually didn’t do much for the touchdown,” Rodgers later said modestly. “He made an incredible catch, it was a very important action,” said the quarterback.

So in the end, despite the sometimes scary performance in the first half, the Jets were still able to celebrate their third win of the season. The team from New York is in second place in the AFC East after new games. The Houston Texans, on the other hand, continue to lead the AFC South table despite their third defeat.
