A firefighter lost his life in a tragic accident that occurred at noon on Friday, October 1, in Evia.
The tragedy occurred when the official vehicle during patrol fell into a ravine, in the area of Kotsikia.
The accident in Evia
The patrol took a bad turn when, under unknown circumstances, the vehicle left its course, ending up in a ravine and subsequently losing radio contact. The driver was extricated from the vehicle dead and the other firefighter injured.
A citizen informed the authorities about the incident and the Commander of the Fire Department of Evia Prefecture Konstantinos Psarros, eight men with three vehicles from Chalkida and twelve men with six vehicles from North Evia rushed to the scene.

A few hours ago, the firefighter who was released with serious injuries was airlifted to a hospital in Athens.
According to reports, he has serious injuries to his back and hands and for this reason he is being transported by fire brigade helicopter from Mantoudi.
Condolences from the mayor and city council
The mayor and the city council expressed their condolences to the family of the unfortunate firefighter and wished a speedy recovery to the firefighter who was transported to Athens.
“On behalf of the Municipal Council of our Municipality, we express our deepest condolences to the family of our fellow citizen driver-firefighter who lost his life while on the job.
At the same time, we wish a speedy recovery to his colleague who was transported by helicopter and is hospitalized in an Athens hospital in a controlled condition.
This tragic event has shocked our entire local community and it must immediately be investigated what caused the accident.”
