Q. Asteras – Panathinaikos 77-81: Double by fire and iron –

Panathinaikos achieved a third consecutive “fire and iron” double in a seven-day period in Belgrade: 77-81 the Red Star of Yannis Sfeiropoulos in front of 8,000 spectators in the packed “Pionir Hall”. At halftime, the score was 46-38 in favor of the Serbs. Kendrick Nunn’s six points in the final minute shaped the outcome, while Teodosic missed the game’s most crucial shot.

The match was a thriller from start to finish. Three straight three-pointers by the former “red and white” Kanaan brought the Serbs to 27-23 at the start of the second period. The loanee from Olympiakos Filip Petrusev wrote 35-30 from consecutive assists of Milos Teodosic and the difference jumped to 14 points, with new three-pointers from Teodosic, Canaan (44-30). Ioannis Papapetrou helped Panathinaikos get back on their feet temporarily, but Nemanja Nedovic scored 52-38 against his old team.

However, the European champion fought back with Kendrick Nunn’s return to the game and quickly got within striking distance: 56-55 just before the end of the 3rd quarter. Dos Santos’ personal actions gave fresh impetus to the Serbs, who went on to win 63-57. Kostas Sloukas cut to within a point with a 3-pointer, but Kanaan answered with the same coin (66-62).

Panathinaikos overtook for the first time with shots by Slukas 2:52 before the final: 71-72. Petrusev responded with a three-pointer, but Nan tied the game with 41 minutes to go (77-77). Nedovic missed and Lorenzo Brown made it 77-79 with shots at 5′ and Teodosic hit an airball just before the break. The final score was shaped by Nan’s shots.

Ergin Ataman used Sluka 10, Brown 12, Grant 11, Nan 13, Osman, Papapetrou 7, Hernangomet 12, Lesor 9, Yurtseven 4, Mitoglou 3. The injured Grigonis was also absent this time.

Nemanja Nedovic finished the game with 6 points. Isaiah Kanaan added 20, Milos Teodosic 5 and Filip Petrusev 7 for the Belgrade team. Kalinics 13, Dos Santos 11 also distinguished themselves.

The match took place in a mourning atmosphere, due to the tragic tragedy at the Novi Sad railway station. Before the jambol, a minute’s silence was observed, while Astera fans did not sing slogans. KAE Panathinaikos also issued a statement of condolence.

Panathinaikos now has 5 wins and 2 losses, while Asteras, which won its first three games, is 3-4. Andrea Trinchieri’s Zalgiris defeated Monaco 63-62 in Kaunas and leads the standings with a 6-1 record.

The Olympian, who yesterday crushed Barcelona in Faliro with 95-74 (Fournier 19, Vezenkov 18, Dorsey 12, Milutinov 12), has a record of 4-3. The two “eternal” of Greek basketball will face each other next Friday at OAKA, in the context of the 8th matchday of the Euroleague.
