Brazil’s national coach renounces Neymar

Brazil’s soccer star Neymar has to postpone his comeback to the national team until next year. Although the 32-year-old has recovered from a torn cruciate ligament, national coach Dorival Júnior will be without the offensive player in the last two World Cup qualifying games of this year in Venezuela (November 14th) and against Uruguay (November 20th). Neymar only played a few minutes after his injury, “that was an important reason,” the 62-year-old explained the non-nomination. Young star Endrick (18) from Real Madrid is also missing from the squad.

Neymar celebrated his comeback at club level almost two weeks ago after suffering a torn cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee on October 18, 2023. The former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain professional came on as a substitute in the 77th minute of his team Al-Hilal’s 5-4 win at Al-Ain FC in the Asian Champions League.

Neymar is pushing back into the national team

Júnior said he had spoken to Neymar three times in the past two months and said he wanted to play for the national team again. “Next year he will have more time to play, then he will completely regain his self-confidence,” said the national coach.

Brazil is in fourth place in World Cup qualifying after ten games, six points behind league leaders and arch-rivals Argentina. The top six teams automatically take part in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
