In electricity production in the Baltics, there is still a shortage of about 40% of the required amount, said Gatis Junghāns, board member of the Latvian transmission system operator AS “Augstsprieguma tīkls” (AST) on Friday at the Market Forum the Electricity. .
In the Baltic States, the raw materials for electricity production are changing, but the overall shortage has not decreased, said a member of the AST board.
Junghāns reported that solar and wind power plants have been added to the production capacity, but that the use of shale and natural gas in electricity production is decreasing. In the middle of this year, solar and wind power plants produced 19% of the total amount of electricity, but shale and natural gas plants – 13%, the lowest level in history.
Junghāns also compared that solar power plants in August 2022 provided 24% of electricity, and in August 2024 – 52% of the total amount.
In general, in the middle of this year, solar and wind power generation capacities in the amount of 5,000 megawatts (MW), which is about 40% of the total capacity, were already installed in the Baltics, said Junghans.
It has already been announced that the AST concern worked last year with a turnover of 234.48 million euros, which is 33.2% less than in 2022, while the concern’s profit decreased by 36.7% and was 10.235 million euros , according to the information “companies. en”.
