The region around the airport has established itself as a hot spot for large logistics companies.

Almost 20,000 people now work at the region’s logistics companies. The job profiles between the shelves and conveyor belts are very different. In addition to the numerous helpers who put together deliveries and pack packages, warehouse logistics specialists also work in the halls. The salary differences here are sometimes enormous.
That’s how many people the logistics companies in the region employ
The employment agency in the Teltow-Fläming district employs almost 12,500 people in the professions of warehouse logistics, freight forwarding clerks and drivers of forklifts and other warehouse machines such as lifting platforms. There are almost 6,500 in the Dahme-Spreewald district.

The majority of these employees work in simple helping jobs. There are 8,500 in Teltow Fläming and 3,800 in Dahme Spreewald. According to statistics from the employment agency, the average gross full-time salary is around 2,300 to 2,400 euros per month.
Grocery deliveries are trending
14 to 15 euros hourly wage. At least that is the benchmark that some companies give for unskilled workers. The food supplier Picnic, for example: The starting salary in the fresh food warehouse is 14.03 euros per hour, explains a company spokesman. A total of 350 people work in the Picnic warehouse in Ludwigsfelde.
The trading company only started up a year ago with a 10,000 square meter hall in Genshagen. There were 220 employees a year ago. Picnic now employs 350 people and in the future there will be up to 500, explains company spokesman Richard Streck.
Amazon in Kiekebusch is preparing for Black Friday and Christmas business
There are also around 500 employees at Amazon who pack, redirect and forward goods every day. But they’ve been getting a little more salary since September. 15 euros per hour: This is the level at which unskilled workers can start in the Amazon sorting center near Kiekebusch.

The company is already well prepared for the upcoming peak season after Black Friday. An additional 30 people have been hired, explains a company spokesman.
Training in warehouse logistics could be worthwhile
Edeka also has a strong presence in the consumer goods sector. The company operates a large warehouse in Mittenwalde. 510 employees work there, 300 of them in warehouse logistics. Edeka is particularly well represented in the training of skilled workers.
A total of 26 trainees are currently employed at the location in Mittenwalde, and not just in the area of warehouse logistics. They also include automotive mechatronics engineers, freight forwarding and logistics clerks and even two dual students in business administration and logistics.

Merchants earn above average
Since Edeka, like many other companies in the region, pays according to a collective agreement, the trainees here receive a basic salary of just under 1,200 euros in the first year and 1,500 euros in the fourth year of training. However, the earning potential after training is much better, especially in specialist professions.
