/ world today news/ “For us, there is no doubt that ever since Bachvarova has been Minister of Internal Affairs, a ministry so responsible and important for the security of the country, chaos has been total.”
This was stated to the media in the parliament by the deputy chairman of the PG of BSP LEFT BULGARIA Atanas Merdzhanov after a meeting with the trade union federation of employees in the Ministry of the Interior. For his finding, he argues with the state of the various directorates, the chronic financial shortage of funds and, of course, the self-confidence of the police officers. Merdzhanov expressed doubts whether the ministry is able to offer effective and workable solutions to the problems raised by the protesters. As the first such deputy pointed out the overtime work of the policemen. “It became clear that we have a terrible regulation from April 1, which practically reformulates overtime to be used as vacation, i.e. overtime is not charged,” explained Merdzhanov. He emphasized that in practice there is no beginning of administrative reform. “We are not aware of how many police officers there are, who will be laid off, who will carry out this reform – whether those who supposedly have to go – the so-called “pickpockets” at the expense of ordinary policemen,” continued the representative. He added that so far there is no analysis of the financial shortfall for the Ministry of the Interior. “At several professional meetings, we definitely came to the question of the need to update the budget for 2015, and that in the Ministry of the Interior,” said Merdzhanov. He cited striking cases of lack of clothing and technical equipment that police officers shared. “It turns out that there is not a single photocopier of its own within the Metropolitan Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This is terrifying,” said the deputy chairman of the PG of BSP LEFT BULGARIA. Regarding the pension reform proposed by the government, he recalled that the left is categorically against increasing seniority and age. “However, we are ready for some kind of understanding between the first and second reading – to comply with the policemen’s proposal for a grace period of 3 years, which affects about 1,000 people,” explained Merdzhanov.
He expressed the opinion that with all these problems, the society cannot rely on the selfless work of the police officers. “It is dangerous to keep one of the most important law enforcement agencies in such a chaotic state, even more so on the eve of the police’s professional holiday,” concluded Atanas Merdzhanov.
The Deputy Chairman of the Board of the SFSMVR Iliya Kuzmanov thanked the parliamentary group of the BSP LEFT BULGARIA for responding to the policemen’s invitation, which is part of the ones sent to all parliamentary groups.
