Mauritanian government approves document for solid waste treatment in Nouakchott

The ministerial committee responsible for studying the issue of solid waste in Nouakchott adopted a document aimed at the treatment and burial of household solid waste.

The adoption of this drug took place during a meeting at the prime ministry, convened by Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay, to discuss and examine a technical study presented by the supervisory sector, which addresses various aspects related to Nouakchott’s waste .

The Prime Minister, at the end of the meeting, gave instructions “to integrate all the observations and proposals made by the sectors involved by next Monday at the latest, and to examine the document approved by the ministerial committee in its final form after integration of all proposals and observations.

According to a previous study, the volume of solid waste produced annually in the city of Nouakchott alone amounted to 261,599 tonnes of various waste, some of which is classified as dangerous.

A year ago, the Ministry of the Environment warned of the seriousness of the volume of waste produced daily, which has become a major environmental and health challenge given the growing increase in the population and the growth and the diversification of the modes of production and consumption that accompany it.
