Accused of kidnapping his daughter, now arrested for murder

Lumberton – A man initially accused of kidnapping his 9-year-old daughter in Pembroke is arrested and now faces a first-degree murder charge.

After the disappearance of the girl Mekiya Werell Strickland In Robeson County, an Amber Alert was issued on Wednesday, October 30 around 3:00 a.m., the National Center for Missing and Exploited Minors in the state.

It was believed that the minor was with her father, Claude Leslie Werell, 50 years oldbut the Amber Alert was deactivated after she was found safe, USA Today reported.

He noted that a Pembroke police spokesperson reported that they found the girl that same Wednesday.

Additionally, the father, who was also wanted for questioning in connection with a death investigation, is already in custody.

According to Wral News, Werell would be charged with first-degree murder.

However, the authorities have not revealed more about which death they are investigating, he clarified.

When the Amber Alert was issued for the disappearance of the minor, the Center reported that Werell is 6′ 5″ tall and weighs 280 pounds. In addition, it is believed that he could be traveling in a blue 2011 Chevrolet Traverse car and has the license plate of North Carolina LBL2909.
