Provocative Kikilias after the wood and chemicals at the Seasonal Firefighters: “Fake provocations of allegedly outraged” –

The Minister of Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, appeared particularly provocative after the suppression orgy against the Seasonal Firefighters, who instead of providing solutions to the problems and satisfying the fair demands of the firefighters, speaking on Friday morning to SKAI, spoke of “fake provocations of supposedly outraged people”.

In fact, while it was known that the Seasonal Firefighters wanted to meet with the minister himself, he insists that while they met with the Chief of the Fire Brigade and Deputy Minister Evangelos Tournas, they did not leave the building.

At the same time, in an attempt to divide the Seasonal Firefighters, he spoke of “provocations of a few dozen allegedly outraged. That is, a minority, against the 2,500 seasonal firefighters”.

«They refused to leave for hours and they did all this not to solve the problem of the sector, but to be able to upload two videos and a title: “MAT vs. Firefighters”. That was the purpose and the goal and if that is not provocation, what is? It was unthinkable. They broke doors, smashed windows. They rushed into halls, insulted their colleagues and filmed with a specific purpose” said Vassilis Kikilias, while in the videos released before the MAT police were hit with chemicals, no vandalism of the building could be seen, contrary to what the minister claims.

At the same time, he referred to the age limit, which has dropped to 35 years and which is reminded that it is going to leave out many capable firefighters over 35 years old at the moment when they have both the experience and endurance to cope – as they prove every summer here and five years-, while he again accused SYRIZA that 2,500 seasonal firefighters were hired by the 2019 law, but also PASOK, speaking of a “Rusfetological perception”.

«I took over a Fire Department with an average age of 50 years. In the Fire Brigade there are 72-year-olds, 78-year-olds, 69-year-olds and so on, because then Mr. Papoutsis – so that PASOK should also be careful – with a provision, which had no criteria, for social reasons, at what age and how to be, hire some people” said the Minister of Civil Protection, at a time when firefighters retire every year, with the result that there are currently 4,000 organic vacancies in the body.

He even persisted, saying in no uncertain terms that a firefighter who is over 35 years old does not have the stamina required.

Specifically, he stated: “Let me remind you that the army has a limit of 27 years and the Police has a limit of 28. We have set a limit of 35 years for recruitment, while the limit is even higher for seasonal firefighters. Because they are people we hire for 5 years with these contracts. To put an end to all this speculation: Do we want a Fire Department where firefighters, rangers, volunteers and all of our strength can go up the mountains, set up facilities, put out fires, and be self-sufficient?” .

In fact, at another point, he actually admits that his main concern is not to blame the government for its inability to deal with the fires. “Now we have 16 forest commando units. They are young, trained and fit guys. Thriving kids and fighting. Do we want? Or do we want a partisan, micro-party, Russo-Fetological concept to prevail, to put in people who in practice cannot help because of their age and then curse and say, oh, you burned all of Greece” he said.
