The Bochum Christmas market begins in three weeks, on November 21st. The website has already gone online today in a new, user-friendly and clear design with a lot of information, at: www.bochumer-weihnacht.de. We are already revealing the basic data.
From November 21st to December 23rd, the Bochum Christmas market will transform the city center into a Christmas village with around 200 stalls – from the main train station, Huestrasse and Dr.-Ruer-Platz via Grabenstrasse, Harmoniestrasse and Schützenbahn to Kortumstrasse, the boulevard and the Town hall forecourt. It is open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., core hours are from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will only be no Christmas market on Dead Sunday, November 24th. December 15th is also Sunday shopping in the city center.
Unique air show
One of the highlights of the Bochum Christmas market is the “Flying Santa Claus” aka Falko Traber, who comes from a famous family of artists. Twice a day (5 p.m. and 7 p.m.) he floats over Dr.-Ruer-Platz on a 125-meter-long and 33-meter-high route and tells a Christmas story along the way. He then greets the children from the Sparkasse Christmas stage who have prepared poems and songs. On opening day (November 21st) there will only be one show at 6:30 p.m. On weekends, Traber will also glide down an inclined rope over 84 meters as the crow flies from the roof of the savings bank building – which is unique in Germany. The “Flying Santa Claus” will be presented again this year by Sparkasse Bochum.
From fairytale forest to “reindeer lounge”
In addition, beloved attractions such as a medieval market, the fairytale forest, light sculptures, the curling rink, virtual sleigh rides and more attract people to the Bochum Christmas market. As part of the Bochum Christmas, after the successes of previous years, there will again be the “Rentier Lounge”, where entertainment is guaranteed: At Kortumstrasse 49, there will be live music, readings and comedy by well-known artists such as Ulli Potofski on five weekends on Fridays and Saturdays or Waltraud Ehlert. Admission to all events is free with a donation to a good cause. More information: www.bochumer-weihnacht.de.
