Already we had presented it for you the robot humane Atlasfrom Boston Dynamics, fully electric, which has been taking big steps towards autonomy. The latest video published by the company shows the robot performing tasks independently and amazing with its ability to move.
Equipped with a machine learning model, Atlas is able to detect and understand its environment in real time, allowing it to react to changes and unexpected events – as the company itself explains:
Atlas uses a machine learning vision model to detect and localize the environment… There are no ordered or teleoperated movements; all transactions are generated independently online. The robot is able to detect and react to changes in the environment (eg resource movement) and functional failures (eg roof input failures, trips and accidents in the environment) using a combination of vision, force and proprioceptive senses.

Parents: Proprioceptive sensors in a humanoid robot are devices that allow the robot to have a “sense” of its own position, movement and direction in space, similar to the sense of suggestion in the people.
Proprioception is the sense that allows our body to see its own position, movement and balance in space, even without using vision. This is what helps us know, for example, where our arms or legs are compared to the rest of the body, without looking at them.

Atlas’ moves don’t feel as natural, but they work
- A recent video highlights the Atlas in action, performing its tasks well, although its movement is a bit peculiar.
- With the capabilities shown in the video, it is expected that robots like Atlas will be able to learn and perform a wide range of manual tasks, changing the way we look at work and productivity.

Or two future humanoids
Although Boston Dynamics has focused exclusively on research, growing interest in humanoids from companies such as Tesla and Agility suggests that Atlas could be on its way to commercial applications. This change could accelerate the adoption of autonomous robots in various industries, expanding their impact on society.
Recently, Elon Musk (owner of Tesla, SpaceX and X) did. bold prediction: By 2040, the world will have more humanoid robots than human beings. Is it really?
We spoke to Dr. Alvaro Machado Dias, neurologist, client and columnist for Olhar Digital News. Carry on!
