The early-sprouting rapeseed in Plovdiv has dried up, grain producer Lyudmil Rabotov said
The continuous land and predictions that it will continue to be so in the coming days are exhausting the grain producers in Plovdiv and throughout the country.
„The sowing it is very difficult for autumn children to progress. The hard ground breaks and dampens the planters heavily. One disking of the soil is not enough, so we do two. After sowing, weeding is necessary in some places, which we otherwise do not do under optimal soil conditions. The bad thing is that the forecasts do not promise rainfall in the near future,” he commented on the situation Ludmil Rabotovchairman of the Union of Grain Producers from Plovdiv.
According to him, the worst part of this year’s campaign is that the previously sown rapeseed, which, provoked by minimal moisture, sprouted, has already dried up. These are expenses that do not lead to income. And not only.
“Next week I will make a final decision on what to do with the canola fields, and most likely I will decide to reseed the areas with wheat.” This is a bad decision because I will mess up my crop rotation plans on the farm. The diversification of crops is not only favorable for the soil and for better future yields, but is also one of the mandatory good agricultural and ecological conditions (DZES 7), on the basis of which we can receive support under the eco scheme,” Rabotov pointed out .
The picture of troubles is also closed by the market, where prices continue to be low. Although, according to the ministry’s data, sunflower is 34% above the price of a year ago, the big minus due to this year’s extremely low yields cannot even be set to zero. “Even if sunflower becomes BGN 1 per kilogram (now it is BGN 0.908 according to the latest operational analysis of the Ministry of Agriculture), we will not be happy because we only got 100-150 kg per hectare,” commented the chairman.
