During the presidential council, an appeal was made by the petitioners that all groups accept the changes in the Law on medical facilities and in the Social Security Code, reports BGNES. The BSP raised the question of withdrawing the entire chapter on the privatization of hospitals, and in response, Moscow answered that this is possible.
Boyko Borisov himself did not make any comment before leaving the parliament. Health Minister Petar Moskov said a few words about the talks, quoted by BNR:
Before the summer recess of the parliament, important legislative initiatives of the government in the field of social activity and in the field of health care should be placed on the agenda of the parliament and we should seek support from the various parliamentary groups.
I will hardly take the liberty of paraphrasing the Prime Minister, but he sought support for the important bills in these two areas, because these are changes that do not just decide something from today to tomorrow, but actually provide the long-term strategic framework for how the finances will move, the health and social security of Bulgarians.
Minister Moskov did not answer which of the parliamentary groups expressed support for the reforms, but emphasized that the conversation was constructive. Prime Minister Borissov left the meeting without commenting, adds the national radio.
After the meeting, Ataka expressed dissatisfaction with the proposals. Party leader Volen Siderov stated:
If these ideas are true, that the Ministry of Health is moving towards the privatization of health facilities, hospitals, we are against it. On the contrary, our view of “Ataka” is the exact opposite, that there should be state health care, that hospitals should be returned to a status not of commercial companies, as they are now, but to be fully state-owned, on a budget. We are not going to a welfare state in the way the Constitution says, we are going to a neoliberal, Latin American type of state.
