Lebanon, In Marjayoun in the south of the country 500 families have nevertheless decided not to abandon their village, despite the bombings

ROMA – “In Lebanon people can’t take it anymore – writes Marco Perini, director of the NGO AVSI for the Middle East and North Africa – after months and months of war which in recent weeks has spread from the South to other regions of the country, tiredness is manifesting itself dramatically today. In Marjayoun, in the south, 500 families (over 3 thousand people) have decided not to abandon their village, despite the bombings, but they are now at the limit of endurance: the schools are closed, the work of too many adults is unstable, some have remained homeless reduced to rubble and all around, in these very hours, the air and land battle for the conquest of the nearby village of Khiam has become particularly ferocious”.

Children accustomed to horror. “I can’t take it anymore, this is my problem – confides one of the women that AVSI supports – the children more or less seem to have gotten used to it, but I cry at every bomb. I pray continuously, but I don’t know how long I will be able to resist.” “Two colleagues from AVSI – Marco Perini’s testimony continues – also remained in the South, they too do not want to leave their homes and continue to carry out their work: they create bridges, allow people to meet, get to know each other and support each other, but they too suffer and are afraid despite the fact that they spread smiles, first of all to us who from Beirut try to help them. We cannot allow these people to lose hope – concludes the director of AVSI in the Middle East – our job is to help also by generating friendship and sharing, and thus prevent anger, sadness and hatred from prevailing. We have reached 15 thousand people, we are active in 133 shelters for displaced people and distributed more than 3,000 basic necessities. Help us.”
