OHL: Quentin Musty ends his “strike”

The Sharks prospect failed to find a place in the NHL and had to return to the OHL to play one final campaign. However, Quentin Musty instead decided to stay at home after his cut by the Sharks.

He was the second major prospect to do so at the start of the season. Winnipeg Jets prospect Colby Barlow demanded a trade from Owen Sound in the OHL. Ultimately, the organization granted his wish by sending him to Oshawa. Moreover, the 40-goal scorer twice in the OHL is having a very difficult start to the season with his new team. He has only five points in 11 games and ranks 8th among his team’s scorers. Not a great performance for a player who had what it took to play in the AHL this season.

In short, if we traded Barlow at his request, Sudbury preferred to stand up to its veteran. After Quentin Musty demanded a trade, the organization issued a statement stating that a trade will only be made if it is profitable for the team. In addition, we added that everything had been done to promote the development of the players, including Musty. Basically, the organization was not going to immediately comply with the player’s request. More than a dozen games have passed and still no sign of Musty and no trade has occurred.

Quentin Musty withdraws

There is probably an advisor, an agent somewhere in the entourage, who told Musty that it no longer made sense. Maybe even the Sharks got involved. It was inconceivable that Musty would stay at home without playing. Thus, the attacker will very soon be back with the Sudbury Wolves. Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey New recently reported that Musty was back in the city of Sudbury and that we expect to see him in action for the Wolves this weekend.

Last year, Musty shattered the competition in the OHL with 102 points in 53 games. The Sharks’ first round pick (#26) in 2023 had also left a nice calling card in the NHL during training camp. This season, the Wolves may not be as competitive as they have been the past two years. A mid-pack formation that will fight for a place in the playoffs. Musty probably wants to play in an aspiring team this season in order to conclude his junior camp with a championship. We should not rule out the possibility that he will be traded during the season. For now, Sudbury has given up on the 19-year-old’s demands, something Owen Sound was unable to do in the Barlow case. The latter, however, proves right those who take a dim view of these requests: he is currently not performing at all up to his talent.
