UNICEF is recruiting for this position (November 1, 2024)

  1. Context

The problem of malnutrition in Benin remains crucial. Despite the efforts that the Beninese government and its technical and financial partners are providing, nutrition indicators remain very worrying.

Benin has adopted vitamin A supplementation (VAS) as one of the high-impact interventions to reduce under-five mortality. Over the past two decades, with funding from Global Affairs Canada, the country has achieved and maintained high coverage (92%) of VAS for children aged 6 to 11 months, successfully integrated into routine immunization activities.

Since 2018, Benin has started the process of routinization of Vitamin A Supplementation, which is an approach aimed at the introduction and gradual integration of Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) of children aged 6 to 59 months into activities. routine particularly routine immunization activities.

Despite all these efforts, ongoing health system reforms, gender-related obstacles and inadequate integration of VAS into the minimum package of routine health activities for children over 12 months, continue to weigh on the country’s progress to better improve coverage of Vitamin A Supplementation.
