Microsoft Boosts AI Development in Ireland with 550 New Jobs
DUBLIN, 1st November 2024: In a landmark announcement today, Taoiseach Simon Harris, alongside James O’Connor, Microsoft Ireland Site Leader and Corporate Vice-President of Microsoft Global Operations Service Centre, and Michael Lohan, Chief Executive of IDA Ireland, revealed that Microsoft has chosen Ireland as a pivotal location for advancing its global AI innovation. The tech giant will add 550 new engineering and R&D positions in Ireland, reinforcing its commitment to pioneering new AI technologies and cyber security solutions.
Significant Investment in AI and Cyber Security
This strategic investment marks Microsoft’s deepening involvement in the development of cutting-edge artificial intelligence and cyber security technologies, which will serve both public and private sector organisations worldwide. The newly created roles will be spread across various multidisciplinary teams focusing on essential areas like Azure Networking & Infrastructure, Business & Industry Copilot, and Cyber Security. The goal is to establish an end-to-end AI product development capability at Microsoft Ireland’s Engineering Hub, primarily aimed at developing robust, scalable, and responsible AI infrastructure.

Microsoft has been operating in Ireland since 1985. The new roles will push the company’s total workforce in the country to over 6,000 employees, distributed across its multifunctional campus in Leopardstown and its data centre campus in Grange Castle.
