Chelsea fans are furious with vice-captain Ben Chilwell after seeing his actions following the Blues’ Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle.
After much better results, Chelsea lost 2-0 away at St James’ Park in the round of 16 of the Carabao Cup. Alexander Isak opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Axel Disasi added his own goal moments later.
Newcastle now face Brentford on December 17 and, like two seasons ago, they are now just two games away from the final at Wembley.
But without even taking to the pitch, Chilwell has angered Chelsea fans online.
Former Chelsea defender Lewis Hall started and played 72 minutes in the win over his former club. After the victory, he shared a series of photos from the game on Instagram with the caption: “I liked that” and a wink emoji.
The left-back and former colleague Chilwell, who was on the bench during the game, seemed to enjoy the situation despite still being under contract with Chelsea. Naturally, this did not go down well with supporters who criticized Chilwell.
One wrote: “Bad from Chilwell. I would expect more from a vice-captain who, apparently, understood what it means to be Chels.”
A second said: “Chilwell can get out of our club asap, scum.
A third said: “Ben Chilwell would rather not play for this club anymore.
A fourth didn’t hold back, writing: “For Chilwell to post this in less than two minutes is crazy. It is a parasite. He should not be allowed anywhere near the first team. “
An end user said: “Yeah, sorry, I’m done with 21 now. Get rid of it completely.”
Chilwell fell out of favor following the arrival of Enzo Maresca in the summer and made just one appearance this season, a cameo in the Carabao Cup tie against Barrow.
Maresca publicly told Chilwell he should leave this summer, saying the former Leicester player was “very difficult for us to find his best position”.
However, the club are unable to find a solution for him and he remains on the west London side’s books until the January window.
