Jeonju City officially launches carbon material advanced medical device verification support center

The ‘Global Innovative Medical Technology Demonstration Support Center’, which supports the verification and commercialization of innovative medical devices using new materials implantable into the human body, such as carbon materials, was officially launched within Chonbuk National University Hospital on the 31st.

The opening ceremony held at the center within Chonbuk National University Hospital on this day was attended by Jeonju City and other local government officials, as well as Chonbuk National University Hospital Director Yang Jong-cheol, Chonbuk National University President Yang Oh-bong, and Korea Health Industry Development Institute Director.

Currently, the importance of the biohealth industry is being emphasized day by day to improve people’s quality of life by ensuring health in the face of global aging. In particular, medical devices using new materials such as carbon materials and ceramics include artificial joints, implants, stents, etc. It has high development potential in various fields such as artificial bones.

In this way, carbon-based medical devices have high biocompatibility and can minimize damage to the human body when used as surgical materials or fixed to bones. They have excellent wear resistance compared to existing metal materials, and do not obscure the surgical site when taking images such as MRI, allowing for medical treatment and surgery. The city benefits are huge.

Jeonju City, which has been intensively fostering the carbon industry together with the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency and carbon-related companies, has built the software necessary for the verification (chemical evaluation) of carbon material medical devices to apply the advantages of carbon materials to the bio field and is developing innovative carbon material medical devices. Product development, performance evaluation, non-clinical ․ By establishing a clinical verification foundation, we plan to provide customized consulting for carbon-related companies and full-cycle verification support services for commercialization.

In addition, Jeonju City has established a full-cycle support system for the commercialization of grade 3 and 4 medical devices implanted in the body in connection with the already established Interventional Mechanobio Technology Convergence Research Center and the Mechanobio Active Material Innovative Medical Device Demonstration Support Center. Expanding to the device field

It is expected that this will lay the foundation for commercialization of products linked to industrial complexes and predominance in domestic and international markets.

An official from Jeonju City said, “The innovative medical device demonstration support project using new materials such as carbon materials is a golden opportunity to expand the scope of the carbon industry, our city’s main industry, and through the demonstration project, Jeonju City is aiming for grade 3 and 4 carbon materials. “If commercialization of medical devices is possible, we will be able to leap forward as Korea’s only carbon material medical device hub,” he said. “In the future, we will focus more on creating a cutting-edge bio ecosystem, such as R&D support projects and professional manpower training projects, to foster the bio industry.” did it

He continued, “Through this, we will do our best to create quality jobs where young people can settle down without leaving the region.”
