Bremen – Tobias Wöltjen (38) lives dangerously as a drag queen (“Miss Joyce DeLone”) and is always on guard. But he could not protect himself from these attacks.
In mid-May, Wöltjen was out and about in the district, Bremen’s party mile, around midnight. “Normally in jeans and a leather jacket. As a drag queen you are constantly insulted, I haven’t exposed myself to that danger for a long time!” he reports.
When Wöltjen looks at his cell phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) on the corner, a boy snatches it out of his hand. “I called the police, locked the cell phone”; said Wöltjen. He located it shortly afterwards in the main train station – two weeks later in Algeria. After that everything was different for Wöltjen: “It was problematic for me to leave my apartment. I was afraid!”
In 3 seconds the cell phone was gone
Now the second attack. Same place, similar time, at least two perpetrators again. This time he had put his cell phone (iPhone 15) in the front of his inside pants pocket. “One danced at me, after three seconds it was gone.” Wöltjen angry: “Them crime has gone so high since Crown. I don’t feel safe anymore!”

The statistics also prove this: In Germany there are more and more robberies on the streets – and the increase is rapid! The number of cases even doubled in some cases. In Bremen, however, they rose particularly drastically: from 844 (2022) to 1,439 (2023).
Striking: The proportion of non-German suspects is above average robber are mostly young and male. In order to take action against this, the Bremen police founded the Soko “Young Robbers” a year ago. With success: Since July 2024, street robberies have fallen by over 50 percent.
Tips to make theft more difficult:
Carry money, cards, and papers nearby in various interior pockets. Keep bags closed in front of you or tucked under your arm. Use inside chest or belt pockets. Keep wallets close to your body, not at the top of shopping bags. Never leave your bags unattended in a restaurant or store or hang them on the backs of chairs.
