Beijing. China will take “strong measures” against infiltration and sabotage activities from abroad to effectively safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, warned Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian country.
When asked during a press conference, the official rejected that China carries out espionage activities, as has been reported in the US media. “Apart from some speculation and unfounded comments, there are no facts or evidence,” he stressed.
On the contrary, he emphasized, there is evidence that the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is looking for informants against China. Weeks ago, the US entity published instructions on social networks in Korean, Mandarin and Persian on how to contact its officials.
“People are trying to contact us from all over the world and we are offering them instructions on how to do so safely,” the CIA said in a statement. “Our efforts on this front have been successful in Russia, and we want to make sure people in other authoritarian regimes know that we are open for business,” the agency added.
“This is a serious violation of China’s national interests,” Lin Jian stressed. “The CIA has long used various despicable methods to steal secrets from other countries, interfere in their internal affairs, and subvert their regimes,” the official added.
In addition to the fact that the United States has long carried out large-scale eavesdropping on its allies in a “blatant” manner, it accuses other countries of being an espionage threat. “This completely confuses good and evil!” said the Chinese government spokesperson; while calling on the Western power to stop “bringing more chaos and turmoil to the world.”
