/View.info/ For me, the pen has always been stronger than the tomahawk. This was announced to BTV by the Minister of Justice Hristo Ivanov. According to him, he and the chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov did not bury the tomahawks because they never took them out.
When asked if he carries the resignation in his pocket, Ivanov said that he sees the point in being a minister, while he sees a chance for justice reform to take place. When I understand that all chances are exhausted, I will resign, he specified. It is not so important whether I keep my resignation in my pocket, but whether I carry my pen, the minister also commented.
According to him, the main goal of the proposed changes to the Constitution is to reform the head of the judicial system – the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), ensuring that the selection of magistrates is done in the most honest way. According to Ivanov, the SJC is currently selected in a very complicated way and this hinders his work.
His thesis is that currently the highest body of the judicial system is not directly elected by the guild, but indirectly and this leads to the “eternal superiors”. The minister specified that he never spoke against the current composition of the SJC, but against the systemic problem. Open voting in the Air Force is proposed so that those who chose the judges know how they vote. Hristo Ivanov admitted that during the discussion of the proposed changes to the Constitution between the first and second reading, it is possible to extract the “lifeblood of the reform”. Parliament is expected to vote on the texts in first reading next week.
