The ’20th Muju Well-being Taekwondo Festival’, hosted by Jeonbuk Ilbo, Woosuk University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and Woosuk University College of Physical Education Taekwondo Department, will be held at the Muju National Sports Center on the 2nd and 3rd.

The Muju Well-being Taekwondo Festival, which changed its name from ‘Well-being Taekwondo Gymnastics and Demonstration Festival’ in 2019, has greatly expanded the scope of existing Taekwondo centered on sparring and poomsae through Taekwondo gymnastics and demonstration contests since its establishment in 2005. Works that artistically and creatively incorporate Taekwondo’s basic movements, creative poomsae, and breaking movements are also improving every year.

In particular, it has become a festival that transcends all ages and generations, with everyone from elementary school students to those over 50 participating. This year’s festival, which will be held for two days from the 2nd to the 3rd, will feature approximately 700 Taekwondo enthusiasts and instructors from all over the country.

On the 2nd, individual all-around breaking competitions, Poomsae individual competitions, and unity competitions will be held, and on the 3rd, free Poomsae, Taekwondo gymnastics, and team competitions will be held.

Individual Poomsae competitions require demonstration of two Poomsae designated by each division from the lower grades of elementary school to the senior division within 30 to 90 seconds.

The unity contest is participated by the Family Department, Priest Department, and Love Department, and up to five members must perform Poomsae for at least 30 seconds and within 90 seconds.

The individual all-around breaking division is conducted in a cut-off format, and participants in the elementary, middle, high school, college, and general divisions must break within 60 seconds of the command to start breaking.

The Taekwon Dance (Foreigners’ Division) category, which consists of basic Taekwondo movements and free choreography, competes between 1 minute and 30 seconds and 2 minutes and must be comprised of 5 or more people (mixed gender possible).

Seo Chang-hoon, Chairman of Jeonbuk Ilbo, said, “The Well-being Taekwondo Competition, now in its 20th year, has not only made Muju, a sacred place for Taekwondo, widely known, but has also played a very important role in the development of Taekwondo in Korea.” He added, “All the participants have demonstrated their honed skills and skills to the fullest, resulting in great results. “I hope so,” he said.
