Valencia wins bronze in the World Cup in Tlaxcala

Mexico City. In recent months, Alejandra Valencia has experienced a wave of emotions: from the euphoria of an Olympic medal to disappointment with the reduction in the amount of her scholarship.

Yesterday, the national archery team closed its season with a new joy: bronze in the World Cup Final in Tlaxcala.

“Obviously I wanted first place, but things don’t always go as planned. It was a heavy cycle, but historic results were achieved and I am satisfied,” declared the Sonoran, a specialist in the recurve bow modality.

In July, Valencia won Olympic team bronze in Paris and, just a month later, complained about a decrease in her scholarship from Ana Guevara’s outgoing administration at the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (Conade).

“What I ask the authorities is to focus on us and what we need,” added the continental monarch, who already spoke about the issue with Rommel Pacheco, the new head of the organization.

Yesterday, in Tlaxcala, the Sonoran defeated two Olympic medalists. First, in the quarterfinals, he defeated Lim Si-hyeon, individual, team and mixed champion in Paris, 6-4.

Later, in the dispute for bronze, she defeated fellow South Korean Jeon Hun-Young, from the champion team in the French capital just a couple of months ago, 6-2.

“After taking a well-deserved vacation, I’m going to shoot again little by little until I reach my level. For now, I am going to enjoy having beaten two top-level archers, which is not very easy to achieve,” said Valencia, who won a prize of 190 thousand pesos. The gold went to the Chinese Lo Jiaman and the silver to Deepika Kumari, from India. It is the third time that South Korea has not won a World Cup final in the last 10 years.

“It is true that I could have done better, but I am left with the effort I made. I enjoyed it a lot and now what follows is to take stock of everything that happened during the year,” Ruiz commented.

Mexico closed its participation with two bronze medals after the third place obtained by Dafne Quintero in the compound bow modality. The specialty’s next goal is the 2025 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.
