Kompany compares Musiala to Zinédine Zidane and Ronaldinho
As incredible as his tally of goals against Mainz was, the goals themselves were just as unpredictable. After just two minutes, Musiala gave FC Bayern the lead with a shot from close range. The final phase of the first half featured a header from an offside position (there is no VAR in the second round of the DFB Cup) and a goal. Goals like those usually scored by the striker Harry Kane or the space translator Thomas Müller – but not by the magician Musiala.
Perhaps he himself was particularly pleased with this category of hits, as they had been the focus of his recent training. “Jamal has decided that he can get a lot more goals in the box that don’t require dribbling in advance,” said Müller. “We trained this in the summer. It’s good that it pays off and proves it with a sense of success. He wants to go to these rooms more often.”
After eleven competitive games, Musiala already has seven goals and scores on average every 100 minutes. This is a significant increase compared to previous years. In his four seasons as a professional for FC Bayern, he needed 209, 248, 189 minutes per goal and last season 238 minutes.
Coach Vincent Kompany sees this positive development as a threat. “I don’t want us to measure his achievements and attributes only according to goals. That’s a problem nowadays,” said Kompany. “There is now this focus on goals, goals, goals because of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.” As is known, the two most influential players of the past often overlap each other with new visit records.
“But what about Zinédine Zidane in the past or Ronaldinho or so many great players who shaped the game even without scoring a goal? “Jamal can be one of those players even if he doesn’t score 1,000 goals.”
