A timer and a rudimentary but effective trigger enough to start a fire. This is what the police found in an apartment in the province of Naples which, without the intervention of the patrol, would have been engulfed in flames. However, it would have been the hosts themselves who organized everything. According to the prosecution, they deliberately wanted to set the fire in order to collect the insurance money. Three people – father, mother and son – were reported.

Let’s take a step back. The police receive an anonymous phone call warning them of the imminent danger. Once they reach the reported apartment they are greeted with insults by the owner of the house who hastens to disconnect the meter. His son and wife also support him by throwing objects of all kinds at the soldiers. In the turmoil, the building in which other families with children also live was evacuated.
Then the confession: the 3 would have set the house on fire just to pocket the insurance premium. The plan was simple: there was a timer connected on one side to an electrical outlet and on the other to a homemade trigger. Next to it were highly flammable Styrofoam containers. There was also a tank with methane. The timer was already set and the police arrived just 15 minutes before the activation. Father, mother and son were reported for complicity in attempted damage following fire, resistance, violence and insult to a public official. The woman will also be liable for personal injury.
