The French newspaper Le Monde says that it has found out the Russian president Vladimir Putin whereabouts by utilizing the fitness app used by Putin’s bodyguards.
According to the newspaper, it found running runs made by Putin’s bodyguards on the Strava application, which is also popular with Finns, where you can record sports performances and keep track of exercises.
Between 2019 and 2024, Putin’s bodyguards regularly recorded their running training near the palace in Gelendzhik on the shores of the Black Sea and the villa in Marjalahti in Laatoka, Karelia.
Both sites are considered Putin’s property. In 2021, a study was published about Gelendzhik’s billion-dollar palace by supporters of opposition politician Alexei Navalny, and the Marjalahti villa was reported earlier this year by the Russian media Dossier.
According to Le Monde, the running workouts recorded by Putin’s bodyguards on Strava coincided with times when Putin did not appear in public and when only his previously recorded speeches were shown on Russian television.
According to the newspaper, the data uploaded to Strava also made it possible to predict the meeting place between Putin and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un in September 2023.
