[2024-10-31] Kakao Impact’s efforts to foster children‘s digital citizenship reached 250,000 children.
Kakao Impact (Chairman Ryu Seok-young), Kakao’s corporate foundation, announced on the 31st that the cumulative number of beneficiaries of ‘Friendly Digital World’, which started in 2015 and has been in operation for 10 years, has exceeded 250,000.
Friendly Digital World is a digital citizenship education program for children and youth operated by Kakao Impact in collaboration with the Green Tree Foundation, helping children who will grow up to become leading figures in the digital world establish sound digital citizenship and values. As the longest-running project in the domestic private digital citizenship education sector, a total of 254,760 people received education by visiting 2,339 schools and 11,434 classes.
A friendly digital world includes ▲’visiting school education’ that teaches the concept of personal information protection and cyberbullying and how to respond through play and classes, ▲’teacher training’ that helps teachers educate students in their daily lives, and ▲nationwide level. It is divided into three ‘in-house instructor-run’ programs so that students can attend lectures.
In particular, it is characterized by continuous improvement of educational programs in line with technological advancements. ‘Visiting School Education’, which provides a customized curriculum for each grade from 1st to 6th grade according to the children’s level of understanding, recently reflected the topic of AI in educational content to help students understand AI and deepfake technology and respond to related crimes. In the future, we are also planning a curriculum that directly utilizes the AI functions of IT platforms, including KakaoTalk.
In addition, starting from 2022, the educational area has been expanded nationwide. Every year, more than 30% of the visits were made to islands and mountainous areas to provide education, and as of this year, a total of 530 schools in island and mountainous regions have been visited, allowing small local schools to benefit without being left out.
It is also receiving a high response from training participants. In a teacher satisfaction survey conducted in 2023, 92.6% responded that they were satisfied, and 95.8% responded that they were willing to recommend. A 6th grade student who participated in the class commented that it was useful, saying, “It was a class that made us think again about ourselves in cyberspace.”
Kakao Impact Chairman Ryu Seok-young said, “This is the result of our tireless efforts over the past 10 years to help children grow up safely in the digital world. We have strengthened AI literacy education to quickly respond to rapidly changing digital changes such as deepfakes, and created a curriculum that reflects this.” “We will continue to develop,” he said.
