TotalEnergies: start of production in Brazil

TotalEnergies announces the start of production from the third phase of development of the Mero field, located on the Libra block, 180 kilometers offshore Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the pre-salt Santos basin.

The ‘Mero-3‘ project comprises 15 wells connected to a floating production, storage and offloading unit, the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, with a production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day (b/d) .

Mero-3 was designed to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, with associated gas reinjection into the reservoir and no routine flaring.

With the start-up of Mero-3, the total production capacity of the Mero field will reach 590,000 b/d. An additional phase of development, ‘Mero-4’, with a capacity of 180,000 b/d, is under construction and is expected to start in 2025.

At full capacity, TotalEnergies’ share of Mero production is expected to exceed 100,000 b/d.

‘With its vast resources and leading productivity, the development of Mero ensures low-cost, low-emission oil production, consistent with our Company’s strategy,’ declared Nicolas Terraz, General Manager Exploration-Production of TotalEnergies.
