Who owns Miniso?

He is Ye Guofu from China, the owner and founder of Miniso. Reported by the official website, Jack Ye, as he is known, got the inspiration for Miniso when he was on vacation with his family in Japan in 2013.

At that time, he found several shops selling quality and well-designed products at low prices. Most products seem to be made in China.

With his knowledge and experience in product development, supply chain and the fashion industry, Ye Guofu founded Miniso, a Japanese-inspired lifestyle product retailer. The head office is located in Guangzhou, China.

Referring to Forbes data, Miniso now has approximately 5,000 stores spread across more than 100 countries, including the United States, England, Canada, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. The largest store in the world even opened at Central Park Mall, Jakarta, covering an area of ​​3,000 square meters and designed as a dream palace garden.

So far, this retail company has cooperated with various famous brands around the world, including Coca Cola, Marvel, Hello Kitty, Sesame Street, Mickey and Minnie, Pink Panther, We Bare Bears, Sanrio , Disney, and Harry Potter.

Behind the current proliferation of Miniso, it turns out that Ye Guofu was not previously a figure from rich circles. Reported by The Richest, Jack Ye grew up in a simple family in Hubei Province whose livelihood was agriculture.

His condition did not prevent Ye Guofu from continuing to study economic management at Zhongnan University of Economics. After graduating, he moved to Guangdan and started working as a salesman in a steel pipe shop.

While working, he honed his business skills by selling accessories, handicrafts and other goods. His first business, called Ariyaya shop, failed, although all his products were sold for 10 yuan. Due to the new shopping trend of Chinese consumers who want higher quality products.

It was only then that inspiration came to Jack Ye when he and his family went on holiday in Japan and visited retail stores such as Muji and Uniqlo. The concept and the products being sold attracted attention.

In 2013, Ye Guofu then founded Miniso retail which offers household goods, electronics and cosmetics at affordable prices. At that time, he built Miniso with Miyake Junya who was the chief designer of this retail company.

Miniso expanded outside mainland China for the first time in 2015. To date, it has more than 5,000 stores across five continents. In Indonesia itself, the retail network entered the market in 2017 and has already established around 300 stores, mentioned from Retail Asia.

Based on Forbes data as of (29/10/2024), Ye Guofu now has a net worth of approximately USD 2.6 billion or equivalent to IDR 40.9 trillion. He was listed as the 1496th richest person in the world in 2024 and 148th in China in 2020.
