The US president made it clear on social media that he did not call Trump supporters ‘scum’ as many interpreted it.
Biden said in a statement that day, “I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by a Trump supporter at the Madison Square Garden rally this morning as trash,” adding, “That’s the only word I can think of.” post toIt is a microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter.
He continued, “Demonizing Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I was going to say. “The comments at that rally do not reflect who we are as a nation.”

In the aftermath of Trump’s hate rally at MSG, Biden took a call from the Hispanic advocacy group Voto Latino. During the call, Biden commented on a disgraceful “joke” made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe in which he referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
“At his rally not long ago, a speaker called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. Well, let me tell you one thing, I don’t know much about Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico, where I live, is in my home state of Delaware. “They are good, decent and honorable people.”
Biden continued, “The only trash floating around out there is his supporters. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American. “It goes completely against everything we have done, everything we have been doing.”
Biden’s comments referring to Trump supporters as “scum” are reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s excavation of the “basket of deplorables” when she ran against Trump in 2016.
At recent campaign rallies, Trump repeatedly referred to the United States as a ‘trash can.’ President Trump appeared in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, October 29th and made anti-immigrant remarks, claiming that crime in Venezuela had decreased. “We are like a giant dumpster because their criminals are taken to the United States. Please treat us like that.”
