YouTube may be preparing to revolutionize the way we choose our videos. The streaming platform is currently testing a major change to its interface.
As revealed by the user vidIQ on the social network X, its YouTube home page has been extensively modified. YouTube is reportedly testing the removal of view counters and publication dates on a small scale. This would be a radical change in user experience.
Currently, each thumbnail displays the creator’s name, view count, and upload date. In this new version, only the creator’s name would remain visible under the videos. This information could nevertheless remain accessible while the videos are playing.

A revolution in the way we choose our videos?
This initiative is already generating mixed reactions within the community. Some users are worried about dates disappearing, particularly crucial for news content, video games or politics, where the freshness of information is essential. Others, on the other hand, welcome the removal of the view counter, believing that it could encourage small creatorsoften neglected in favor of more popular videos.
The objective of these modifications could therefore be twofold: to purify the user interface and to encourage the discovery of less viral but equally relevant content. By hiding the number of views, YouTube could encourage users to focus more on the content itself rather than its popularity.
This experiment is part of a series of recent changes to the YouTube interface. The platform has notably introduced a pink gradient in its progress bar and modified the display of the “ Skip the ad “. At the same time, YouTube is developing new features based on artificial intelligence to enrich creation tools and optimize monetization.
It is important to note that these changes are currently in the testing phasewith no deployment date announced. Initial user feedback seems mixedso it’s possible that Google will backtrack. The platform will surely have to refine its approach before possible large-scale deployment.
