Sinner renounces the Paris-Bercy tournament. Berrettini out in the 1st round

Plot twist: Jannik Sinner he withdrew from the Masters 1000 in Paris. The tournament organizers announced it. The world no.1 himself wrote on his social profiles: “See you in Turin”. The ATP Finals will take place from 10 to 17 November.

Sinner should have made his debut in the Paris tournament on Wednesday 30 October from the second round. Cause of withdrawal from the Paris tournament was an intestinal virus. “I’m sorry I can’t take the field, I came early to prepare for this tournament but I caught a virus that will pass in two or three days and my body is not ready to compete, I’m very sorry,” he said in a short message to the fans in a video published on the tournament’s official X profile.

“I thought it was tiredness”

“It’s not an easy announcement to make. I started feeling unwell during training and saw the doctor on Sunday. I’m not worried about Torino and Davis” assured Jannik in an interview with Sky Sport in view of the last two matches of the season. “Friday evening after training I didn’t feel great – says Jannik – Already the two days before, in reality it was a bit so-so, but I thought it was due to tiredness. Then on Sunday we went to the doctor and he told me that I have a virus, which will pass in 3/4 days. Already today I feel a little better, but my body isn’t strong enough and he’s not trained. I’m dehydrated, it can happen. It’s been a long season and now this blow has arrived, but in a few days I think I’ll be better and we’ll prepare for Turin. Everything will be fine, I’m not afraid for Turin nor for the Davis Cup. I will do everything to be there 100% and I’m sure that will be the case. I will take today and tomorrow off, then on Thursday we will see how I am, otherwise we will start on Friday or Saturday Turin”.

Sinner will be replaced in the main draw by Frenchman Arthur Cazaux. The world no.1’s relationship with the French capital is decidedly not happy: in July he also had to give up Olympics and at Roland Garros he never got beyond the semi-final.
