Dead newborns: Chiara, ‘this is how I gave birth, they weren’t breathing’

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, OCTOBER 30 – “I tried to shake him, he wasn’t breathing and I put him in the garden”. These are the words of Chiara Petrolini, 21 years old, under house arrest in relation to the death of her two newborns, delivered about a year apart and found buried in the garden of her villa in Traversetolo in the province of Parma. Statements made by the girl in the interrogation on September 10, answering the investigators’ questions about the birth of the first child. The Gazzetta di Parma reports them. In that interrogation Chiara explains that she had contractions and that she gave birth to the baby (the first) “in the bedroom at night”. “I cut the umbilical cord,” he adds. This is an element that could lead to the hypothesis that the little one may have died from a haemorrhage like his little brother born in August this year. According to investigators, coordinated by the Parma Prosecutor’s Office, based on various findings that first baby would have been born on May 12, 2023, but Chiara – when asked when the birth took place – says she doesn’t remember. The young woman is also under investigation for voluntary homicide in relation to her first child. In the interrogation in August, after the first discovery of a body, Chiara said about the second child she gave birth to: “It had its eyes open, but it didn’t make any sounds”. When the news of the discovery of the two little bodies overwhelms her family, the parents in the wiretaps – reports the Gazzetta – reveal their unawareness: “What did you do? Was it you? That’s how you go to jail”, they tell her. Chiara does not collapse and in the subsequent interrogation she also denies having induced both parties, despite web searches to the contrary. (HANDLE).
