Criticism of the government’s Corona policy: Lisa Federle from Tübingen

Some consider her to be the best-known emergency doctor in Germany – at least since Corona. Lisa Federle likes to hold up a mirror to politics. Many politicians are “effeminate”.

The Tübingen emergency doctor Lisa Federle – known for her great commitment to the pandemic – believes it is a serious mistake that there should be no review of the state’s Corona policy by the Bundestag. “I think it’s a catastrophe how we’re dealing with Corona,” said Federle in the SWR video podcast “On the Matter Intensive.” She understood that one had to act in an emergency and introduce the corona vaccination quickly. “But now it’s the case that we could have had time to collect all the side effects, all the incidents, all the consequences, vaccine damage and so on, to evaluate them and to honestly pass them on to people. And I don’t have the will to do that. ”

Cannabis more important than Corona: Federle criticizes Lauterbach

She has already written to Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) about this, but he now has “slightly autistic traits”. She accused him of caring more about the legalization of cannabis than Corona. “At some point the legalization of drugs was more important for the Ministry of Health,” said 63-year-old Federle, who is also a CDU member. A Bundestag committee was actually supposed to deal with politics during the pandemic. But the traffic light coalition was unable to agree on the procedure, it was said about three weeks ago.

Federle now fears that there will be a further loss of trust in politics. “This uneasy feeling remains and I’m sure that I’ve often seen people split off and deal with the issue in a completely irrational way. I’m also sure that the AfD is relying on some of its enthusiastic voters or influxes this corner with me.”

What is “Intense to the Matter”?

“Zur Sache Intensiv” is a video podcast from SWR in which the journalists Alexandra Gondorf and Henning Otte invite you to an “intensive” weekly conversation – about politics and personal matters in a relaxed atmosphere. Whether they are politicians, celebrities or other personalities, our hosts want to get to know the people behind the prominent facade.

Emergency doctor appeals to politicians: You can deal with the truth

She appealed to politicians to address the issue. “I think we have a responsibility to work through this, even if it turns out that we made mistakes or that someone embezzled something.” Even a difficult truth can be dealt with better than a lie. “So if someone comes to me and then says afterwards: ‘You, I lied to you, can you forgive me?’, I can do that. But if I constantly have the feeling that they are lying to me and will continue to lie to me , then I will never have confidence in that.”

FDP calls for an investigative commission to deal with Corona

The health policy spokesman for the Baden-Württemberg FDP parliamentary group, Jochen Haußmann, also commented on the Tübingen emergency doctor’s criticism of the Corona processing. He also calls for a scientific review of the measures taken in the wake of the corona pandemic.

“We can’t just carry on as if nothing had happened,” said Haußmann. The goal agreed in the coalition agreement of drawing conclusions from the corona pandemic and implementing them politically must be implemented. The FDP is therefore calling for the establishment of a “pandemic” study commission at the federal level.

Federle understands people who were “scared.”

Federle made it clear that she had never had any sympathy for “radical lateral thinkers”. As a doctor, however, she can understand “if someone is afraid of something. So if someone is afraid of taking pills or being vaccinated or being confronted with something, I can understand that.” There were a lot of people like that during the Corona period. “But conversely, there were also a lot of people who were afraid that they would die. You shouldn’t forget that.” In March 2021, the doctor, together with Tübingen’s mayor Boris Palmer, implemented the “Tübingen model”, in which guests were allowed to go shopping in the city if they could show or have taken a daily negative rapid corona test.

The emergency doctor, who is also a best-selling author (“Straight ahead on crooked roads”), wants to encourage people through readings. “Some are afraid of war, others are afraid of poverty. The third are afraid of expulsion. The fourth are afraid of foreigners, the fifth are afraid of viruses.” She wants to show people: “We can do it if we stick together. We got through Corona too. We just should do it differently than we did.” That’s why we have to draw conclusions from the pandemic. The important question is: “How do we ensure that afterwards we don’t end up with a society that completely drifts apart?”

Around two years ago, Lisa Federle was a guest on SWR1 People and, among other things, gave an insight into the Corona processing in Tübingen:

Federle calls for a new start for the compulsory social year

From their point of view, a contribution to greater cohesion would be a new start for a compulsory social year after school. “I don’t think you waste any time if you spend a year seeing the world from the other side,” said Federle. “I think you don’t learn a lot of things just by listening. You have to live and feel and experience something. And when you experience older people, when you experience sick people, when you experience weak people, then you have a completely different relationship to people.” And: “You have a completely different respect for what others do.”

Young people are “different people” after a social year

The 63-year-old doctor referred to her own experiences with young people who are starting their voluntary social year: “They come in, don’t say hello, shout around, leave their plate behind, say cool sayings. If you see them after a year , it’s other people.”

Her own motivation to want to help people comes from her youth: “I probably became the way I am because I had that childhood and youth and I felt totally lonely after my father died and I wished I had someone who takes care of me.”

Since compulsory military service and thus also community service were suspended in 2011, there has been ongoing discussion about returning to compulsory service – currently there is the Federal Voluntary Service. The most important supporter of mandatory service to society is Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. In his opinion, a compulsory social period should be between six months and a year. While the CDU is also in favor of a social year, the Greens and FDP are against such an intervention – Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) also expressed skepticism.
