In the PNE 2024, the results of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology emerge: among the high-volume structures (at least 150 cases per year) Monopoli is first in treating the fracture within 48 hours and among the top 10 within two days, together with the hospitals Venus and Saint Paul of Bari
The Orthopedics of ASL Bari are confirmed as among the best in Italy for the timeliness and effectiveness in the treatment of fractures of the neck of the femur. It is the photograph taken by Agenas through the definitive data of the PNE-National Outcomes Plan of 2024, relating to the surgical activities carried out in 2023 by 686 Orthopedics.
The analysis of the data – as in the 2023 report – highlights the excellent result of the San Giacomo Orthopedics of Monopoli which, in the treatment of femur fracture within 48 hours (the most stringent evaluation parameter), ranks first in Italy with 98.08% and 246 operations performed among high-volume structures, i.e. which treat at least 150 femur fractures per year. Monopoli, this time together with “Di Venere”, is also present among the 14 Italian structures (out of 69 highest volume structures) that have reached or exceeded the proportion of 75% of interventions carried out within 48 hours in 2023 and also in the 3 previous years, symptomatic of the ability to maintain quality and timeliness over time.
If we then analyze the results of the Orthopaedics, always at a high volume but over the two days, the ASL Bari structures record a performance of absolute importance, with three hospitals among the top ten in Italy: Monopoli again 3rd (97, 82%), 5th the “Di Venere” (97.54% and 260 operations) and 8th the San Paolo di Bari (95.91% and 236 operations). Altamura Orthopedics also performs very well, 26th in Italy with 91.87% and 154 treatments of femur fracture within two days and, in 44th place, Molfetta with 88.9% and 163 operations.
«The professionalism and organization of our Orthopedics – comments the acting general director, Luigi Fruscio – are rewarded by the Agenas report, which carries out an objective and qualified evaluation based on data, and stimulates us to do even better also in other sectors by putting once fully operational, a work model capable of valorising different skills and producing this type of results”.
«For the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology – underlines the director Enzo Caiaffa – these are truly relevant results at a national and regional level, also because Puglia achieves a record even compared to large regions such as Sicily, Lazio, Lombardy and Veneto. At the origin of these high performances is respect for the rules and what is monitored by the Ministry of Health and strictly applied in our structures. Puglia, and with it the ASL Bari, is among the first regions to have equipped itself with a Diagnostic Therapeutic Care Path (PDTA) at regional level, a clinical management tool for the definition of the best care process, which provides clear indications on the treatment fractures of the femoral neck”.
Numbers and outcomes that enhance the choral working method and the organization of the Orthopedic and Traumatology Department which every year “produces” a total of around 6 thousand surgical operations, employs PDTAs also for Day Service services and has managed to relocate elective activities on the centers of Corato and Putignano, with the latter entirely dedicated to hip and knee prosthetic surgery for which at least 500 operations are performed annually.
