Previews of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have appeared online. Judging by the preliminary impressions of journalists, developers from MachineGames create dynamic action in the spirit of the original Indiana Jones films, which will appeal to fans of the character.
For example, they think so in Eurogamer. The game has been called a “love letter” to the original films, and has also been compared to RoboCop: Rogue City. Indiana can use a pistol, as well as sneak and engage in close combat. It turned out to be interesting, because you can interact with the environment and even pick up objects.
But there were some downsides – the puzzles turned out to be boring. For example, mirrors with rays of light have been seen in many other games and are not surprising, as are a number of traps with spikes and quicksand.
“Anyone who considers themselves a fan of the Indiana Jones film trilogy (there were definitely only three films, I don’t know what you’re talking about) should definitely pay attention to this game,” concluded the Eurogamer journalist.
Reviewer Windows Central stated that if the version of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle shown to reporters corresponds to the full game, then the new product will be a “big victory” for Microsoft. It’s all about the variety of puzzles, as well as a wide variety of tools for “creative” passage.
Due to the interaction with physics and the great freedom of action, The Great Circle feels like an immersive game. However, the demo version had graphics problems that should be fixed by the time of release.
“With the right villains and an intriguing overarching mystery to unravel, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle could end up being remembered as a true ‘fourth’ entry in the Indiana Jones franchise,” a Windows Central writer opined.
Author GameSpot noted that in The Great Circle, developers from MachineGames took a more open approach to game design, which is why the adventures in the Vatican and the search for alternative routes can be compared to Dishonored. Open spaces are not linear, but filled with side missions and secrets.
“Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a mixture of many genres, but it seems that the authors managed to find the right balance between them to honor the spirit of Indiana Jones. […] This is the kind of game that becomes an impressive showcase of MachineGames’ toolkit and understanding of how to shape a game’s design around its protagonist and story,” said GameSpot’s reviewer.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on December 9th on PC and Xbox Series. The game will reach the PlayStation 5 in the spring, and while you wait, you can read the details of the plot and gameplay.
