Cybertrust Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Yuji Kitamura, hereinafter referred to as Cybertrust) is operated by Yoko Uchida Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Noboru Okubo, hereinafter referred to as Yoko Uchida) We are pleased to announce that the terminal authentication service “Cybertrust Device ID” has been adopted as one of the services that will make up the cutting-edge educational ICT environment of the second phase of the GIGA School Initiative *1. With the recent adoption of “Cybertrust Device ID,” remote access to networks used for school affairs can be controlled through strict terminal authentication, and multi-factor authentication using electronic certificates, IDs and passwords is required for strong security. *2.

In this recruitment, Yoko Uchida will use the NEXT GIGA educational ICT platform provided to Arakawa Ward, Tokyo (Ward Mayor: Taichiro Nishikawa, Superintendent of Education: Hirokazu Takanashi, hereinafter referred to as Arakawa Ward), based on the educational information set forth by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. We support the realization of a cloud network environment that complies with the “Security Policy Guidelines”*3 and implements “robust access control”*4 through multi-factor authentication.

For Arakawa Ward’s educational ICT infrastructure, Hiroyuki Uchida selected Cybertrust’s terminal authentication service “Cybertrust Device ID” to log in to the school administration system from a Chromebook terminal via Microsoft’s Azure Virtual Desktop. In conjunction with the functions of the school affairs environment (Microsoft 365 Education A5), we implemented multi-factor authentication using electronic certificates, IDs and passwords.

“Device ID” enables strict device authentication by checking device identification information and registering device certificates only for devices approved by the administrator. By ensuring that the device certificate that the administrator has applied for is distributed to the relevant terminals and allowing only the terminals with registered device certificates to access the connected network, we prevent unauthorized access and create a safe service usage environment. can.

In promoting NEXT GIGA, Cybertrust will support the development of an educational ICT environment that can be used more safely and securely by students and teachers.

*1 What is the second phase of the GIGA School Initiative? “GIGA School Initiative” is a government project that started in December 2019 to promote the use of ICT technology in schools. The second stage is also called “NEXT GIGA”, which involves further development of communication networks. NEXT GIGA is required to accelerate educational DX, improve communication networks, and promote school affairs DX. *2 Multi-factor authentication: Authentication that combines two or more different authentication factors among the three authentication factors of “knowledge information,” “possession information,” and “biometric information.” *3 “ Guidelines regarding educational information security policy ” is a guideline released by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology that was revised in January 2024 and states that device authentication using electronic certificates and multi-factor authentication are necessary as a countermeasure against unauthorized access.

*4 “Strong access control”: Security measures that combine user authentication (multi-factor authentication), device authentication, and monitoring and controlling access routes. The “Guidelines for Educational Information Security Policy” states that “When handling important information (importance classification II or higher) on public clouds, it is necessary to take measures with strong access controls, including multi-factor authentication.” mentioned.
