De Graafschap – De Graafschap continues to convert after a big win over TOP Oss: 4-1

De Graafschap recorded a big victory over TOP Oss on Tuesday evening in the first round of the TOTO KNVB Cup; 4-1. With this, Jan Vreman’s team secures a place in the draw for the second round, next Friday afternoon.

El Kadiri shows specialty again

De Graafschap showed their intentions from the whistle to ensure that the next round of the cup was secured. First it was Philip Brittijn who tried with a volley that went wide, shortly afterwards left back Kaya Simons shot hard at TOP goalkeeper Mike Havekotte. After seventeen minutes it was Ibrahim El Kadiri who broke the spell for the Achterhoekse Trots. The man who has already scored so many great goals this season, did so again by placing the leather beautifully in the top right corner.

The Super Farmers could not enjoy the lead for long. After a foul by Symons on Joshua Zimmerman, referee Alex Bos placed the ball on the spot. Abel Stensrud calmly scored the equalizer for the Ossenians. That also seemed to be the halftime score for a long time, until Symons went for a deep ball and also came up with a cross with a sliding slide. The ball went into the ball and into our own goal via TOP Oss defender Xander Lambrix.

Quick penalty

In the second half, De Graafschap continued where it left off in the first act. With good play in possession, TOP once again put Oss under pressure. After a nice attack, Mahi was stopped illegally in the penalty area and Bos once again pointed to the spot. Youssef El Jebli, who had replaced Jesse van de Haar at half-time, stood behind the ball in an old-fashioned way and decisively put the 3-1 on the board.

TOP Oss then tried, but could not get a grip on the sometimes good play of De Graafschap. The final chord came again in injury time. El Jebli put away the substitute Tristan van Gilst and he remained ice cold again alone in front of Havekotte; 4-1.

The next challenge awaits on Friday, when FC Dordrecht visits Doetinchem. The duel to join the top of the Kitchen Champion Division will then kick off at 8 p.m. on our own De Vijverberg.
