War in North Kivu: the ANVC calls on the Government to slow down the advance of the M23 towards Pinga

The National Association of Victims of Congo (ANVC) asked, Tuesday October 29, the Government to take the necessary measures to stop the advance of the M23 rebels towards Pinga, in North Kivu.

The national coordinator of the ANVC in North Kivu, Sadiki Mukobya Espoir, reacted to the threats that increasingly weigh on this strategic city in the territory of Walikale.

« We can ask the government to go directly on the offensive to protect civilians and defend territorial integrity. “, he pleaded.

According to this civil society activist, if the M23 managed to occupy Pinga, this could increase the threat to other neighboring provinces of North Kivu. Because Walikale is the crossroads between the provinces of Maniema, Tshopo and Ituri, recalls Sadiki Mukobya.

The ANVC coordinator also fears a deterioration in the humanitarian situation of civilians in the Pinga region if the army does not stop the advance of the rebels supported by Rwanda:

« There will be non-assistance to certain victims because as I speak to you, we have already recorded at least 32 cases of death of peaceful citizens. There are also massive displacements. And as it is a very isolated area, there will be no access for humanitarian assistance because there is no road for accessibility to reach where people are moving.” .
