Snow is expected in the coming days, especially in the north and central part of the country. In these areas, snow and sleet rains also worsen driving conditions, warns Foreca.
– The rain comes mainly as water in the south, in different forms in the central part of the country, and in the north at least partly as snow. However, it is possible that the south will also see the first flakes of the autumn season this week, even if the accumulations will remain small in the south, predicts Foreca’s meteorologist Joanna Rinne.
The snowier the further north you go
Water, sleet and snow showers will spread from the west to the region of Ostrobothnia to southern Lapland on Tuesday evening. The area of rain will advance to a wider area during the night.
In the south and central part of the country, scattered rains come down as water. The heaviest rains fall in the north and are snowier the further north you are.
Rain is expected in the central and northern parts of the country on Wednesday, but in the south the weather will be sunny and dusty.
In the central part of the country, the rain comes mostly as water, but as the day progresses, there may be wet snow as well. In northern Lapland, the rain comes mostly as snow.
The wind will be strong throughout the country on Wednesday. In the southern and central part of the country, Gusts can be 15–20 meters per second. Storm gusts are predicted for the sea areas, and in the Pärämere, the average wind may intensify into a storm during the day on Wednesday.
At the end of the week, there is a chance of snow showers in the south as well
On Thursday, it will be cloudy and rainy in the southern and central parts of the country, in Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.
– Rain comes during the day in the south as water, in the central part of the country as water, sleet and snow. To the north of the rain area, there may be some snow in the Oulu region, says Rinne.
On Friday, the rain areas, on the other hand, will hit the southern and eastern parts of the country. It rains in the south, but in the east there can be both rain, sleet and snow. The rest of the country is cloudy and sunny in many places.
The weather is quite chilly at the weekend. Temperatures will drop below five degrees throughout the country. There will be slight snow showers in some places, and snow showers are also possible in the south.
Current forecasts show that a new low pressure center will spread over Finland on Sunday, bringing with it rain and stormy weather. In the north, the rain comes as snow, towards the south it rains more.
