The Chamber of Commerce in Electricity (CCEE), a non-profit civil society responsible for the electricity trade in the country, launched this Tuesday (29), in the capital of São Paulo, the first Brazilian platform that will centralize renewable energy certificate.
According to CCEE, the service will collect data from companies and certification bodies in the country and will have the ability, based on this information, to monitor where the energy used came from. One of the roles of the platform is to avoid double verification of the same energy.
The Chamber estimates that around 93% of the electricity produced in Brazil already comes from sources such as wind, solar, hydro and biomass plants. In 2021, according to CCEE, less than 2% of this renewable energy has been verified. In 2022, the percentage increased to 4% and, in 2023, it rose to 6.9%. According to the Chamber’s projections, this result could reach up to 50%.
“We will contribute to attracting investors, expanding business and creating jobs, as well as increasing the introduction of Brazilian green products into the international market”, said the president CCEE Board of Directors, Alexandre Ramos.
The National Secretary of Electric Power of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Gentil Sá, indicated that the device will help position the country at the forefront of the green economy.
“It is the trust that the energy sector needs. We centralize data and make it possible to trace the source of the energy used as a basis for issuing certificates. A certificate is a fundamental step for This valuation adds a lot of international credibility to Brazil’s green energy industry,” Gentil said.
