The NBA has fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 for comments made publicly about the health of their superstar Joel Embiid.
An investigation by the NBA failed to show that the Sixers violated the player participation policy in relation to Embiid’s recent absences.
However, the Silver Circuit concludes that the Pennsylvania team made comments that were not an “accurate reflection” of the health problems of the Cameroonian center, who is suffering from a knee injury.
In a statement, the NBA said that the comments of 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, as well as those of head coach Nick Nurse, were “inconsistent with the state of health of Joel Embiid, and are consistent with against the regulations.
The NBA nevertheless added in this same statement that it was able to confirm that Embiid is inactive so far this season due to “a medical condition in his left knee”.
Since the start of the regular season, neither Embiid nor Paul George have been able to take part in Philadelphia’s games.
George, acquired during the offseason by the Sixers, is currently nursing a bruised left knee.
The two stars took part in portions of Tuesday’s practice, but will not be in uniform Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons.
