Yesterday afternoon, the soldiers of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Rimini, in collaboration with those of the local Company, arrested a 19-year-old from the Marche resident in Campania in the act of committing fraud.
In the early afternoon, an elderly woman in the capital received a call from her so-called nephew who, in a voice distorted by a sore throat, was asking for money because his mother would have a legal problem and money was needed immediately to resolve a big problem. The caller added that a friend of his would be coming by shortly to collect money and valuables.
As anticipated, a few minutes later a boy rang the doorbell of the house and asked the victim to give him a bracelet, pins and a watch and the sum of €800 in cash.
Once the scare passed, the 82-year-old lady immediately realized that she had been the victim of a scam and contacted 112: the military, through a precise description of the perpetrator, launched searches in the area to trace the alleged perpetrator of the crime and allowed the Carabinieri of the Rimini Investigative Unit to block the 19-year-old near the railway station.
The search conducted led to the discovery of the objects handed over by the victim shortly before, hidden inside the backpack among books and school notebooks, probably used as cover.
What was stolen was returned to the old woman, the boy was arrested and held in the security rooms: the hearing which validated the arrest took place this morning.
