29/10/2024 – The Open Festival Wednesday 30 October (8.30 pm) presents two choreographies (titled “13” e “14”) which are part of the Numerical Seriescurious idea of TAO Dance Theatera company based in Beijingwinner of Silver Lion at the Dance Biennial 2023 which gave life to a set of many creations, each of which is titled with the number of dancers involved.
A performance based on hypnotic force of the body and about the power of movement and a minimalist aesthetic.

13, for 13 dancers, it develops according to a triple scheme, investigating three ways of the body relating: the solo, the duet, the ensemble. Starting from the unity of the ensemble, the choreography progressively fragments the dancers, a rotating ensemble on a white stage, in different formations between slow motion and sudden accelerations, reflecting the “complexity of the physical world, where we continually bump into each other, join and disjoin, fall and get up while bouncing” within a choreographic form that is both rigorous and open.
A study in rhythm, 14for 14 dancers, he uses quick changes of movement that bring out all the possibilities between stasis and movement, a rigorous choreography in an explosion of colours. Result of a complex dynamism, 14 brings the vocabulary of “Circular Movement System” – a study process created by Tao Ye and Duan Ni with their dancers, which approaches the body in a circular way – to the extreme: points, lines and planes that intersect in space bring the work back to pure movement, unfolding all its range of possibilities.
A performance that confuses and amazes, by this company, founded in 2008 by the choreographers Tao Ye, Duan Ni and the producer Wang Hao, characterized by an innovative approach to movement, a body technique called “Circular Movement System”. At the base is the idea of a pure dance, achieved through the “ritualistic repetition of the natural movements of the body”, calling into question the spectator’s ability to concentrate on the repeated gesture in its essentiality, devoid of any ornamentation.
Thursday 31 October (6.00 pm) at the Ariosto Theatre, Duan Ni, co-artistic director of Tao Dance Theater will hold a workshop aimed at professional dancersdance teachers and advanced students. The workshop intends to transmit knowledge of Circular Movement Systema movement vocabulary developed by Tao Ye e Duan Ni. The goal of this workshop is to allow participants to free their body and discover its possibilities. The lesson will revolve around relaxing the joints, shifting body weight and the idea of heaviness.
